His colourless portrait

Betrayed a story of sadness

That would forever remain untold

His downcast eyes

Spoke of cherished dreams

Which would never be allowed to unfold

His young face

Wore the worried lines

Of someone far too old

His broken heart

Reached out from the picture

To find only emptiness and cold

His final thought

Looking away from the camera

How cheaply our lives are sold
