Why I'm Doing This
Updated: Aug 22
Many advised me against doing this. They said that people wouldn’t read it because they didn’t care about politics or they had enough current affairs/news in their life, much of which was negative or difficult to stomach.
I did do a poll to gauge interest, and despite people’s reservations and cautions, 63% voted ‘Yes’ I should do this blog and 37% voted ‘no’.
For my first post, which I’m going to keep brief, I wanted to explain why I am doing this and why I feel it’s so important.
It’s all too easy to resign yourself to the fact that, as an individual, you have no power, no agency, to cause any kind of meaningful change in the world. It’s all too easy to give in to apathy and lose yourself in trivial pursuits or fantasies. The fact of the matter is, though, that each one of us has power and agency. And combined, we have enormous power and agency. Indeed, if we cannot change the world, who will?
There are two flames burning in the human heart… The flame of anger against injustice, and the flame of hope you can build a better world. - Tony Benn
My intent is to reflect these two flames in my blog posts. Yes, I will raise injustices and issues in the world, but I also hope to propose solutions and offer hope.
Thank you for joining me on this journey. I can’t promise that the road will be smooth, but I can promise that it will always be meaningful.
